The theme of this memorial is that nothing is straight or level.. when you walk through this memorial you always feel out of balance-this is to reflect what it felt like to be on a train carried off to a concentration camp. dark,uneven, not knowing what to expect. The blocks are smooth a stone of some sort, people were suppose to be able to walk on them but it became a hazard so now there are guards who walk around continually having people get down off of the blocks.There was a true museum underground of this memorial but it wasn't child friendly.
Very sobering. But we need these reminders. Mom
