The other day i was in a baking mood but had no baking soda so I ran(figuratively) to the REWE, after looking up the German word for baking soda (of course). I get there couldn't find it, asked someone -saying the word over and over in different ways till finally ding! ding! I said it right, then he took me to it, surprised to see it in packets but non the less it is the word I took it home and opened it to find out that it really looks like baking powder not soda, so reading about substitutions guess you can use extra powder to compensate for not having soda. Then I looked the word up again, soda and powder are the same word here... that makes no sense. Will be buying a big box of soda on base and not running out again. by the way the banana bread turned out fine with extra powder in place of soda..
So weird.
